US consumers filed complaints against Samsung with concern of recent Data breach

Samsung Data breach

Earlier, Samsung had informed some consumers, especially in the United States, about their data leak. The company noted that its US-based systems experienced a data breach in July, but it notified consumers about it in early September.

Meanwhile, a Bloomberg Law report suggests consumers are now suing Samsung for failing to protect personal information from the recent data breach. According to the report, on September 6, a consumer filed a complaint against Samsung in the US District Court for Nevada.

In the complaint (filed by Shelby Harmer et al.), it is mentioned that the complainants were not notified soon after the cyber attack on Samsung. The complaint document talks about a July 2022 incident when an unauthorized party managed to steal personal information from Samsung’s US systems, including:

  • Names
  • Contact,
  • Demographic information
  • Dates of birth
  • Product registration information

As noted in an email sent to affected consumers, Samsung claimed that it found the data breach around August 4 after conducting an investigation. The main concern by the consumers is that the company did not inform the affected customers for almost a full month.
