You may have seen the amazing action from TechDroid’s showdown, which saw four of the most popular flagships – the Samsung S24 Ultra, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Pixel 8 Pro, and OnePlus 12 – compete in a lens-switching challenge. This isn’t just the low-light mode video you’ve become accustomed to; Taking things to another level, TechDroider did a really good job of analyzing both flow and zoom-out and considering color changes as well as transition delays.
Samsung also completes the story, with four lenses. To keep the plot thick, others were playing with three lenses at a time. The options we have – Samsung only occasionally brings an extra lens in it. The choice of accessories will now depend entirely on you, boys and girls, incredible TechDroid users – the trier, excellent advisor, and executor (of the doubt). Before we deflate our tires, let’s first consider the consequences.
At the top, the super wide transition (0.5x/0.6x to 1x) takes priority. The biggest winners this year were Samsung and OnePlus, thanks to their solid stability. Pixel, on the other hand, did introduce such an issue, but please keep it in mind when deciding which one you are going to buy.

This is where we encounter the crazy part. At 5x digital, Samsung’s optical zoom outputs views with four lenses, while others are making do with three. Keeping in mind that we wanted to be fair, TechDroider looked at 6x on the Samsung and 7x on the OnePlus. Both the Samsung Galaxy and iPhone were unopposed in this legacy category, while OnePlus demonstrated its potential, but the Pixel? The gear changer was a creaking tortoise on an adventure – slow and experienced.
Finally, those transition tests from fast zoom in and out using the maximum optical zoom proved that the iPhone was far from its rivals on smooth and quick zoom changes. It was also the case that Samsung and OnePlus did not have enough ammunition to compete competitively or overtake the Pixel, which was an area that was later recognized and identified as a weakness.
