Going with the report, in the quarter third of 2022 foldable smartphone market obtained an 85% share and 5.2M units on a sell-in basis but in quarter four of 2022, it lost its momentum with a fall of 50% quarter on quarter and 36% year on year to 2.6M units.

The company has caught its first-ever decline on a year-on-year basis and the reason behind this is the arrival of the iPhone 14 series with its improved cameras and Dynamic Island. Notably, the share is expected to fall further in quarter one of 2023 and fall below 50% in a quarter second of 2023.

As per Ross Young CEO of DSCC, the reason behind this fall is the weak global economy, and also the debut of the iPhone 14 series. And Samsung could see a continued decline in the coming year as new entrants like Google and Oppo are coming with their upcoming foldable devices.

These new offerings like Pixel foldable and Oppo Find N2 and Find N2 Flip is going to increase competition at a vast range also it will give consumers more choice and bring down prices. However, to maintain its existence Samsung should pay some more effort and come up with some or other offerings.
