Top 3 Key Points:
- Security Upgrade: The Galaxy S20 series gets a crucial August 2024 security patch.
- Global Rollout: Switzerland first; other regions to follow shortly.
- Major Fixes: Addresses 50 vulnerabilities, including a severe Android flaw.
Samsung has begun rolling out the August 2024 security update for the Galaxy S20 series. Earlier this week, the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) received this update, and now the original models—Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra—are also getting it.
Switzerland is the first country where this update is available. Given its importance, Samsung is expected to extend the update to other regions soon.
The August security patch is particularly crucial as it resolves a significant vulnerability in Android that was discovered a few months ago. This flaw could potentially allow unauthorized access to your device. Besides this, the update also fixes 49 other security issues. While most of these vulnerabilities affect all Android devices, some are specific to Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
You can identify the latest update for the Galaxy S20 series by looking for a build number that ends with “HXG1.” The update can be installed directly on your phone by going to Settings » Software update and downloading it over the air.
