The Galaxy A52 lineup, including the standard Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A52s, will not receive further Android or One UI feature updates. Recently updated to One UI 6.1, these models will remain on Android 14 and One UI 6.1 indefinitely.
Samsung’s policy, introduced in 2022, ensures four major Android OS upgrades for flagship and mid-range smartphones. However, the Galaxy A52 series, launched in 2021, was only promised three major upgrades per the 2020 policy. Having started with Android 11 and One UI 3, they have received their final feature update and will only get security updates from now on.
Security patches will continue for at least another year, quarterly for the Galaxy A52 and A52 5G, and monthly for the Galaxy A52s. Future security update availability remains uncertain.
Given this scenario, Galaxy A52 owners might contemplate an upgrade. While the Galaxy A55 is an attractive option with Android 14 and One UI 6.1, its software experience is not drastically different from the A52 series. Considering waiting for the Galaxy A56, which may offer seven years of updates and significant performance improvements, could be prudent.
If immediate upgrade needs arise, the Galaxy A55 is highly recommended, being one of the top Android smartphones of 2024.
