Best Buy Ends Samsung ASP Program: What It Means for Users

Recently, Samsung users have faced dwindling repair options for their devices. Now, Best Buy has announced the termination of its Samsung Authorized Service Provider (ASP) program, which previously allowed Best Buy’s Geek Squad to provide official Samsung repairs using original parts and training.

The End of the ASP Program

The news first surfaced on Reddit, and was later confirmed by a Geek Squad employee via a screenshot of an email stating, “Samsung ASP is ending in all SASP locations.” This termination follows iFixit’s earlier decision to cease offering repairs for Samsung devices due to high part costs and availability issues. Consequently, Samsung users now have fewer repair options, with UBreakiFix being one of the remaining alternatives.

Implications for Samsung Users

The closure of the ASP program has significant consequences for Samsung device owners. Previously, any Samsung device could be repaired at Best Buy ASP locations regardless of purchase origin. Now, repairs at Best Buy are limited to phones bought there and covered by the Geek Squad Protection plan. Additionally, device replacements will incur costs between $199 and $249, depending on the model.

Official Responses

Both Best Buy and Samsung have acknowledged the program’s termination without denying it. Mario Renato de Castro, Samsung’s head of mobile customer care, stated they are “in discussions with Best Buy to determine how Samsung can best support our customers moving forward,” highlighting their network of over 9,000 certified technicians. Katie Klister, Best Buy’s spokesperson, emphasized their commitment to supporting customers with authorized services and repairs, indicating ongoing evaluations on the best ways to continue their partnership with Samsung.
