A few days back, WhatsApp announced that the Web version users will also be able to create usernames for their accounts to add an extra layer of privacy. Meanwhile, new information claims that WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows users to search for others by username on the Web.
As per the shared post of WhatsApp, this username-based search feature will enhance user experience by eliminating the need for phone numbers, providing a convenient and privacy-conscious method for users to discover and connect with others within WhatsApp.
In addition, usernames for communication will simplify the connection process on WhatsApp. It will be particularly beneficial for users who prioritize privacy, as they will be easily able to share their usernames, eliminating the need for explicit exchange of phone numbers.
However, the feature to allow users to create a username and search others by username is under development and it will be available in a future update of the WhatsApp web version.
