Zynga’s Star Wars Hunters, launched in June, has been a hit multiplayer game. However, it has consistently blocked Android foldable phones like the Galaxy Z Fold series from playing the game since its release.
Initially, Star Wars Hunters was not available for download on devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Fold 4, and Pixel Fold. Surprisingly, it worked well on the OnePlus Open, utilizing its large internal display without issues.
When the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was released, the game was briefly available for download from the Play Store. However, recent updates have made it “not compatible” with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Early adopters who managed to download the game can no longer play it because the required update won’t install from the Play Store. Although the update is available for sideloading, it can’t be accessed directly from the Play Store.
Interestingly, the game remains available for download on the OnePlus Open.
It seems Zynga might be targeting specific foldable devices for blocking, possibly overlooking the OnePlus Open due to its lower market presence and the Fold 6 during its initial release period.
The reason for Zynga’s decision to block Android foldables is unclear. The game works perfectly fine on these devices with their unique aspect ratios. There’s no technical limitation, as the game is compatible with non-foldable versions of these devices like the Galaxy S24 Ultra and Pixel 8 Pro. This decision is puzzling and frustrating for foldable phone owners, and many hope Zynga will reconsider.
