Samsung Continues as World’s Second-Biggest Tablet Brand
In the second quarter of 2024, Samsung held its position as the world’s second-largest tablet manufacturer. The company saw an 18.6% increase in tablet shipments compared to the same period last year, despite not releasing any major new tablets. According to IDC, Samsung shipped 6.9 million Galaxy tablets, securing 20.1% of the global market share. This growth was primarily driven by commercial sales, notably with Galaxy XCover devices.
Apple retained the top spot, shipping 12.3 million iPads and capturing 35.8% of the market. Although Apple’s shipments increased by 18.2%, its market share slightly dropped from 37% in Q2 2023 to 35.8% in Q2 2024.
Other notable performances included Lenovo, which shipped 2.5 million tablets (a 16.7% increase), and Huawei, which grew impressively by 40.3% year-over-year, shipping 2.3 million tablets. Xiaomi also saw significant growth, nearly doubling its shipments to 2 million units, largely due to strong sales in Russia and Europe.
Looking ahead, Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy Tab S10 series later this year, featuring models like the Galaxy Tab S10, S10+, and S10 Ultra. These new tablets are rumored to include MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300+ processor, marking a first for Samsung’s high-end tablets.
Samsung Hints at Upcoming Galaxy S24 FE
Samsung has unofficially confirmed the Galaxy S24 FE through a support page on its official website for France. The page lists the model number SM-S721B, indicating the international version of the Galaxy S24 FE. This marks the first official acknowledgment of the device’s existence.
Leaked specifications suggest the Galaxy S24 FE will feature the Exynos 2400 SoC, the same processor used in the Galaxy S24 and S24+. It will likely come with Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1, and at least one version will have 8GB of RAM. The phone is expected to sport a 50MP ISOCELL HP3 primary rear camera, thinner bezels, a larger screen, and a slimmer design compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 FE. It will be available in four colors: Gray, Light Blue, Light Green, and Yellow. More details are anticipated as the launch date approaches.
