Samsung’s slimmer Galaxy Z Fold 6 may be named ‘Special Edition’

Top 3 Key Points:

  1. Samsung’s new foldable may be named “Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.”
  2. The device is slimmer but may not support the S Pen due to design changes.
  3. Expected to feature premium materials and could launch by the end of the year.

Samsung is reportedly working on a sleeker version of its popular foldable smartphone, but it may not be called the “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim” as some rumors suggested. Instead, the upcoming device is expected to be named the “Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.”

New Name for Samsung’s High-End Foldable

Tech insider Evan Blass, known for accurate leaks, has hinted that Samsung’s next flagship foldable could go by this new name. Earlier reports suggested names like “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim” or “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra,” but it seems the company has opted for “Special Edition” instead. This model is expected to be available primarily in China and South Korea, which makes the unique name fitting.

Slimmer Design with Trade-Offs

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is said to be thinner, measuring just 11mm, which is slightly slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. However, this reduction in thickness comes at a cost—Samsung has reportedly removed the digitizer from the inner screen. As a result, the device won’t support the S Pen, making it less functional than some of its competitors in the Chinese market, which have managed to maintain S Pen compatibility.

Premium Materials and Cameras

The Special Edition is rumored to have a titanium back plate, adding to its premium feel. Camera-wise, it might feature a 12MP ultrawide camera at the back, a 10MP selfie camera on the cover screen, and an improved 5MP under-display camera beneath the foldable screen. There’s also talk that Samsung may tweak the aspect ratio of the screens and upgrade the primary camera, but these details have yet to be confirmed.

Expected Launch

Samsung might unveil the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition between October and December this year. Given its high-end features and materials, it’s likely to be priced above the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.
