Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A7 Lite and Galaxy Watch series receive crucial software updates

Key Points:

  1. Galaxy Tab A7 Lite Update: The tablet receives the One UI 6.1 update with new features and enhanced security.
  2. Galaxy Watch Series Beta: One UI 6 Watch Beta rolls out to Galaxy Watch 4 and 5 with improved performance and Global AOD.
  3. Health Feature in India: Galaxy Watches in India get the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature for enhanced health monitoring.

Samsung has rolled out the One UI 6.1 update for the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite, adding new features and improving security. This update arrives later than expected, but it includes the July 2024 security patch and is available in South Korea. Owners can update their tablets by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install. Given that the device has already received three major Android updates (Android 12, 13, and 14), this may be its last significant update.

What’s New in the One UI 6.1 Update for Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

The One UI 6.1 update introduces several new features to the Galaxy Tab A7 Lite:

  • Wallpaper Customization: Users can now edit wallpapers, customize alarm backgrounds with AR Emojis, images, or videos, and choose where alarm text is displayed.
  • Enhanced Calendar and Reminders: The update adds more options for customizing calendar entries and reminder notifications, including new sticker and background color features.
  • Quick Share Upgrade: The tablet’s Quick Share feature now integrates Google’s Nearby Share, making file sharing between Galaxy devices more seamless.
  • Improved Weather Widget: The Weather widget now provides more detailed forecasts, including severe weather alerts like heavy rain or thunderstorms.

Additionally, users can enjoy other features like improved Gallery search, customizable Modes and Routines, and better battery protection options.

Galaxy Watch Series Receives One UI 6 Watch Beta

Samsung is also rolling out the One UI 6 Watch Beta (ZXH4) for Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 5, initially in South Korea. This Beta update enhances system performance, improves battery life, and addresses network issues. Notably, it includes Global Always-On Display (AOD) support, which keeps non-home screen tiles visible with a dimmed overlay.

Users enrolled in the Beta Program should ensure their devices are well-charged and connected to a stable network before downloading the update. Resetting the watch post-update is recommended for optimal performance.

Critical Health Feature Released in India

In addition to software updates, Samsung has introduced the Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification (IHRN) feature to Wear OS-based Galaxy Watches in India. Initially launched with the Galaxy Watch 6, this health feature is now available on all supported Galaxy Watches, including Galaxy Watch 4, 5, 6, and newer models.

The IHRN feature continuously monitors the wearer’s heart rate and notifies them of any irregular rhythms, which could indicate potential health risks such as Atrial Fibrillation (A.Fib). This feature is part of the Samsung Health Monitor app and uses the BioActive Sensor on the back of the Galaxy Watch to detect abnormalities.

To activate this feature, users must install the Samsung Health Monitor app from the Galaxy Store. The update follows the release of other health features like Blood Pressure and Electrocardiograph earlier this year in India, further enhancing the capabilities of Samsung’s wearable devices.
