Samsung’s foldable challenge: thin but tough

Key Points:

  • Samsung is making a slimmer Galaxy Z Fold 6 but faces challenges.
  • Balancing thinness with durability is crucial for Samsung.
  • Chinese competitors have already achieved impressive thinness.

Samsung is working on a new foldable phone called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim. It will be extra thin and only available in China and South Korea. However, making it as thin as Chinese foldable phones is proving difficult for Samsung.

The biggest challenge is keeping the phone strong while making it super slim. Samsung wants the phone to be around 11 to 11.5 millimeters thick, which is already much thinner than the current Z Fold 6. To achieve this, they removed a part called a digitizer, which is used for the S Pen.

But making the phone too thin could cause problems. The phone might break easily if it’s too thin. Also, Samsung needs to save some technology for next year’s model.

Chinese companies like Honor and Xiaomi have already made very thin foldable phones. Samsung is studying these phones to learn how they did it. However, Samsung believes it’s important to keep the Z Fold 6 Slim at least 10.5 millimeters thick to make sure it’s strong and reliable.

While Samsung aims for a slimmer phone, it won’t sacrifice the phone’s durability. The company will carefully balance thinness with the phone’s ability to withstand everyday use.
