We have not yet entered 2024, and the preparation of Galaxy devices that will launch in 2025 has already begun by the Korean tech firm. Ok, let me clear the matter, Samsung is reportedly planning to use PHOLED display in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 devices.
According to the information, Samsung Display has set a goal of applying blue phosphorescent OLED devices in the second half of 2025. There has been a previous prediction that the blue phosphorescent material could be applied to a foldable phone scheduled to be released in mid-2024.
However, the expected application time is being delayed from the second half of 2024 to the second half of 2025. The official further stated that the development of blue phosphorescent material does not seem to be going smoothly.
Thus, the PHOLED display, whose set name is B1 is expected to be used in Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 instead of sixth-generation foldable models, which are set to launch in the second quarter of 2024.
Notably, Red and green OLED devices use phosphorescent materials with an internal luminous efficiency of 100%, but blue still uses fluorescent materials with an internal luminous efficiency of 25%. By replacing blue fluorescence with blue phosphorescence, the firm wants to reduce OLED power consumption.
Samsung Display officials said,
- The red and green phosphorescent materials to be used in B1 will be materials that Samsung Display is developing for the flexible OLED material set M15, and the target application period for blue phosphorescence is the second half of 2025.
- Samsung Display plans to use the blue phosphorescent material currently being developed even if its lifespan is only 55% of that of the fluorescent material applied to the M11.
- We aim to increase the luminous efficiency by more than 65% compared to the material applied to the M13.
