Key Points:
- Galaxy A16 5G specs revealed via Geekbench.
- Samsung was criticized for Apple-inspired designs in new wearables.
- Internal changes at Samsung following quality concerns and design issues.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy A16 5G has been spotted on Geekbench, revealing some key hardware upgrades. The phone will feature a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, an improvement from the Galaxy A15’s Dimensity 6100+ chipset. It will also come with 6GB of RAM and run on the latest Android 14. While storage options weren’t specified, it’s expected to offer 128GB and possibly 256GB variants.
In addition to the 5G model, Samsung is developing a 4G version of the Galaxy A16, likely with a different chipset, similar to the Galaxy A15 4G.
The Galaxy A16 5G is anticipated to retain some features from its predecessor, the Galaxy A15 5G, which includes a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a 5,000 mAh battery with 25W wired charging, and a 13-megapixel front camera. The Galaxy A15 5G also has a triple rear camera setup (50MP + 5MP + 2MP) and is available in several memory configurations: 4/128GB, 6/128GB, 8/128GB, and 8/256 GB.
In other news, Samsung’s leadership is under fire following criticism over the design of their latest products. After the Galaxy Unpacked event, many have noted the resemblance of the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Buds 3 series to Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra and AirPods. This backlash comes amid concerns over the quality of these new products, with reports of halted earbud deliveries and complaints about the Watch Ultra’s battery performance.
Samsung Chairman Jay Y. Lee has reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the design choices and ordered a re-evaluation of plans within the MX Division, which oversees mobile and wearable devices. This has led to internal changes and the potential for a strategic shift away from designs inspired by Apple.
The controversy highlights the need for Samsung to focus on innovation rather than imitation to maintain its leadership in the tech industry.
