Key points:
- Galaxy A06: Successor to the A05 with the same 5000mAh battery but a more compact design thanks to thinner bezels. Launch expected in September 2024.
- Galaxy S25 Ultra: Battery certification hints at no capacity increase from the S24 Ultra’s 5000mAh. The launch timeframe remains unknown (likely early 2025).
Samsung’s Budget and Flagship Lines See Battery Developments
The rumor mill continues to churn out details about Samsung’s upcoming smartphones. Leaks regarding the Galaxy A06, the successor to the budget-friendly A05, reveal a design refresh that prioritizes compactness while maintaining the same battery life. Meanwhile, a certification for the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s battery suggests no change in capacity from its predecessor.
Galaxy A06: Shrinking Bezels for Improved Handling
The Galaxy A06 recently appeared on the FCC certification database, highlighting its key specifications. While the 5000mAh battery capacity remains unchanged from the A05, the FCC filing reveals a more compact design. The A06 measures 167.3mm tall and 77.31mm wide, compared to the A05’s 168.8mm and 78.2mm. This translates to a slightly shorter and narrower phone, likely achieved through thinner bezels. This should make the A06 easier to hold and use with one hand.
Previous leaks point towards the A06 sporting a MediaTek Helio G80 processor, 4GB of RAM, and Android 14 with One UI 6.1 on top. The model number (SM-A065F) suggests it will be limited to 4G LTE connectivity, forgoing the inclusion of 5G. Considering the A05’s September 2023 launch, we can expect the A06 to arrive around the same time this year.
Galaxy S25 Ultra: Familiar Battery Capacity Expected
The upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra’s battery has received certification from India’s Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This comes after reports surfaced suggesting Samsung would maintain the same battery capacity for the standard S25 model.
The BIS certification reveals the battery model numbers (EB-BS938ABE and EB-BS938ABY) but doesn’t disclose the capacity, which is standard practice for such certifications. However, considering the current S24 Ultra’s 5000mAh battery and the efficiency of modern smartphone processors, it’s safe to assume Samsung will stick with this proven capacity for the S25 Ultra.
While rumors regarding the S25 lineup’s chipset remain speculative, with some suggesting three different options, the Ultra model might follow the S24 Ultra’s trend and utilize a Snapdragon chip exclusively across all markets. With 2025 still half a year away, concrete details about the S25 series remain scarce.
Focus Shifts to Upcoming Foldables
In the immediate future, Samsung enthusiasts can set their sights on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. These new foldables will be unveiled at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris on July 10th. The event will also showcase several wearables, including the Galaxy Ring and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
