Samsung merged existing research and development institutes into one to establish a new semiconductor and display research center in Japan. The company has taken this decision to accelerate cooperation with local companies thanks to improved relations between South Korea and Japan.
According to PulseNews’ sources, Samsung has recently “restructured device solutions-related R&D facilities” in Yokohama and Osaka to launch a larger research center in Japan, called DSRJ. As mentioned, the new center is based at the Samsung Yokohama Research Institute.

Moreover, the company has plans to hire local talent in Japan to work at its newly established research and development center. It’s a bold move by Samsung as it eyes future growth taking advantage of Japan‘s cutting-edge technology and manpower.
An official from the business circle said:
“In the past, there was a perception that we have nothing more to learn from Japan, but Japan is still at the forefront in advanced technology. Samsung Electronics’ new integrated R&D center in Japan may signal the company’s intention to restore its link with Japan.”
It’s worth mentioning that, the South Korean tech giant is already operating an integrated research center for its Device eXperience division under the name Samsung Research Japan. The country’s importance in reorganizing the global semiconductor supply chain also seems to have affected the move.
