Samsung Electronics to reportedly supply Zen 5c chips to AMD

Samsung Electronics’ 4 nm process has achieved huge improvements in performance and yields this year, and this could lead the firm to supply Zen 5c chips to AMD. Yes, the Korean tech giant has achieved a similar level of process actuality as its competitor, TSMC.

According to the information, AMD is expected to produce ‘Zen 5c’ server chips, known by the code name Prometheus, in Samsung Electronics’ foundry division’s 4-nano process and TSMC’s 3-nano process.

AMD has mainly used TSMC as its main foundry company, but this time, it is exploring ways to place orders from both Samsung and TSMC. Samsung’s boost in 4nm process tech is attracting consumers and AMD is one among them.

If The Korean tech giant successfully supplies Zen 5c chips to AMD, there is a possibility of new orders based on 3nm Gate All Around (GAA) in the future.

Kim Yang-paeng, an expert researcher at the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, said, “If Samsung successfully wins an order for AMD’s 4-nano chips this time, it will open the door to transactions in the ‘big chip’ field for servers, where Samsung was weak.” He added, “In the future, we will use cutting-edge processes such as 3-nano. “This will be an opportunity for Samsung Foundry’s influence to grow,” he explained.
