Samsung Electronics and ASML signed a deal to build new semiconductor plant

On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, Samsung Electronics and ASML a Dutch tech giant signed a deal worth around 700 million euros to build a new semiconductor research plant in South Korea. This deal was signed on the first day of the South Korean President’s official visit to the Netherlands.

Yoon Suk Yeol, the Korean president was the first foreign leader to visit ASML’s highly secure clean room, on a trip to the Netherlands. He examined the city-sized facilities of ASML, which makes cutting-edge machines to manufacture the semiconductor chips that power your smartphone, car, and more.

ASML and Samsung then further agreed to jointly invest in the facility that would develop cutting-edge semiconductor processing technology using next-generation [extreme ultraviolet] equipment.

With this agreement, Samsung and ASML aim to forge a chip alliance to move forward in the highly competitive and extremely complex semiconductor chip segment
