Google adds new Scan Text Tool to Gboard for Android

Google offers bundles of applications and keeps on modifying them with some or the other functionalities, in a recent development the firm is adding a new Scan Text tool to its Gboard app. This new addition will help users in various ways and elevate the experience.

This Gboard Scan Text is a built-in tool that uses optical character recognition (OCR) functionality. Furthermore, it appears alongside Translate and Proofread, however, to use this feature, you will need to grant Gboard the camera permission.

It opens as a viewfinder square that takes up the bottom half of your screen. You “Take a photo of words to scan” with the capture button and Gboard will highlight the text that it sees in the photo. This highlights an entire line, which can be adjusted further.

Now, here you will see a bottom sheet with an “Insert” button, just do it and it will scan your text. However, this is a straightforward process that will save you time and effort. Also, the feature rollout has not yet begun globally, but it will be live soon.
