Key Points:
- Galaxy Z Flip 6 has a hidden desktop mode.
- It’s not as powerful as Samsung DeX.
- The model is currently buggy.
The new Galaxy Z Flip 6 smartphone has a secret feature: a desktop mode. While this sounds impressive, it’s not the same as Samsung’s powerful DeX mode found on other flagship phones. Unlike its predecessors, the Z Flip 6 allows users to activate a desktop-like interface when connected to an external screen.
However, this desktop mode is not fully developed. It lacks essential features like a taskbar and has some glitches. For instance, trying to split the screen often leads to issues. Despite these shortcomings, it’s still an improvement over previous Z Flip models, which couldn’t even mirror their screens to external displays.
Samsung has explained that the reason for the absence of DeX on Z Flip phones is overheating. The phone’s design makes it difficult to manage heat when running DeX. While the Z Flip 5 could finally send video output to external screens, it still couldn’t run DeX.
For now, Z Flip 6 owners who want a desktop-like experience will have to make do with this experimental mode. It’s hoped that Samsung will refine it in future updates, providing users with a more polished and capable desktop experience.
