Samsung’s latest flagship, the Galaxy S24, boasts an unprecedented camera feature: Super Wide-Gamut Color (Super HDR). This technology touts the possibility of creating high-quality images with bright highlights and unusually deep shadows, similar to Google’s acclaimed Ultra HDR. But here’s the kicker: unlike existing devices and despite being equipped with HD hardware, the Galaxy S23 series, Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 are not endowed with the above upgrades.
Such action by Samsung will result in a large number of angry customers. Viewing Super HDR on the Galaxy S23 Ultra will look great with the manufacturer’s best camera and display. And the last sad thing Google found is that despite Ultra HDR being released on last year’s phones, it didn’t happen.
But don’t forget that the setting has its benefits. Most of Samsung’s gadgets are equipped with all the flagship features, which means that if an older Samsung device is updated, it will at least be able to understand this year’s blockbuster hits. Thus, although they missed it the first time, the opportunity is at the door for Super HDR and there is still change to be made.
The smartphone landscape also indicates the challenge that Samsung and Google face in the smartphone sector. With the introduction of the new Pro HDR technology addition by Samsung in its latest version Samsung Pay, Google Pixel models provide users with comprehensive software support so that even older models of these models can benefit from the new development. In the end, it comes down to whether the software you want is on advanced technology or is software that is last supported.
