Key points:
- Google Meet gains translated captions in 52 new languages and closed captions in 11 new languages (Workspace customers only, some in beta).
- Improved syncing between Google Calendar and third-party calendars (like Outlook) with better accuracy and reduced email clutter.
- The beta program is open to Workspace customers until July 10th, 2024.
Breaking Down Language Barriers in Google Meet
Google Meet is upping its accessibility game with a significant boost in language support. Workspace customers will now enjoy translated captions in a whopping 52 additional languages during video calls. This brings the total number of supported languages for translated captions to a remarkable 69.
Additionally, 11 new languages are being added for closed captions, currently in beta testing. These changes cater to a wider audience and enhance communication for users who don’t speak the primary language of a meeting. Even if you don’t have a Workspace account, you can still benefit from live-translated captions if the meeting host does.
Smoother Sailing for Calendar Syncing
Many users rely on Google Calendar alongside other calendar services like Outlook. Google has listened to customer feedback and is addressing syncing hiccups with a beta program. This update promises increased accuracy, meaning edits or changes made to an event in Google Calendar will automatically reflect in the linked third-party calendar. No more manual updates or missed appointments! Another welcome change is the reduction of email clutter.
Syncing-related notifications will be marked and sent from a specific address, allowing users to easily filter them out if desired. For Outlook users, administrators can leverage Microsoft’s Powershell for even more granular control over these emails.
By streamlining syncing and minimizing notification overload, Google is fostering a more collaborative environment where users can effortlessly share schedules across different platforms. This beta program is open to all Google Workspace customers until July 10th, 2024, so interested admins can sign up and experience the improvements firsthand.
