It appears that tech giant Samsung is aiming for a major update to smart homes (for those enthusiasts) with the worldwide filing of a trademark titled “SmartThings Pro.” It looks like we’ll be dealing with an upgraded version of their standalone SmartThings app that may arrive at the same Unpacked event later this month when Verizon should announce the next Galaxy Z Fold segment.
With details unknown, the word “Pro” in the title suggests more features than the original Samsung SmartThings. Of course, we can expect a product that will be more powerful and have more functionality or perhaps with a subscription fee that will offer advanced levels. We will see how this is usually done in software.
By putting a smart home on its map, Samsung shows its big vision towards the smart home segment. SmartThings already gives users the possibility to handle some smart devices (that they have) with just one application. SmartThings is the next step in making it more technologically mature and sophisticated to what could be a better professional-grade experience for those who want to automate their homes with complete control.
The SmartThings Pro release has generated significant hype since the July Unpacked event, with people awaiting the official launch of the new product. Wait and see as we get to know more about its specifications, how it works, and whether it will have some additional features.
