According to the information, Qualcomm has confirmed that many OEMs will release Android devices powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Interestingly, Samsung did not appear in the list of foundries, which seems quite mysterious.
Samsung revealer IceUniverse found that Qualcomm mentions that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset will have the model number SM8550-AB, while the 8 Gen 1 will have the model number SM8450. Since the company added an “AB” suffix to the model number, it’s more likely to be the SM8550-AC or another model number.
The US chipmaker officially revealed that it signed a multi-year partnership with Samsung to bring Snapdragon chipsets to the world. Therefore, Samsung may have turned to Qualcomm for a custom 8th Gen 2 variant, which may only be available in the Galaxy S23 series.
Moreover, the South Korean tech giant is still developing the Exynos 2300 flagship chipset with 5nm process technology. It’s worth mentioning that the company’s next flagship will be for mid-range Galaxy smartphones, with the S23 series using Snapdragon chips globally.
