Next month, Samsung is going to introduce the new Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 smartphones, at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Ahead of the Unpacked event, Samsung President of Mobile Division – TM Roh wrote that the shipments of foldable phones reached 10 million in 2021.

Through his blog post, Dr. Roh wants to point out that people are nowadays preferring foldable smartphones compared to the traditional ones having bar-like form factor. In just three years, foldable phones become the first choice of millions of consumers.
Thanks to the groundbreaking demand, the industry sold nearly 10 million foldable smartphones globally in 2021, which is 300 percent higher from 2020. Well, Samsung seems too excited here as Ross Young earlier said TheVerge that 7.9 million foldable shipped last year, while the IDC report claimed 7.1 million.
According to the data shared by Mr. Ross, the South Korean tech giant alone shipped 87.8 percent of foldable phones in 2021, while Huawei ranked second with 9.3 percent, followed by Xiaomi with 2.4 percent, Royale with 0.3 percent, and OPPO with 0.2 percent, respectively.
Here’s what TM Roh said: “Three years ago, the Galaxy foldables could be summed up in a single word: radical. Very quickly, however, it became clear that this groundbreaking, flexible design fit perfectly into modern lifestyles. As a result, what was once a novelty three years ago is now the preferred choice for millions.”
