With 5G connectivity-enabled smartphones soon to top the sales charts, Samsung India is set for a massive sales rally. The inclusion of 5G models in a large number of Samsung phones has been steadily increasing over the past few years, with the latest Galaxy phones being developed with 5G technology in mind.
The debut of two 5G devices, the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55, which are mid-range gadgets, indicates that Samsung is ready for the much-acclaimed 5G phones to make a huge impact on the Indian smartphone market this year. A moderately aggressive approach has been set, with the target being 75% of sales which is almost double compared to last year’s 61%.
Akshay Rao, general manager of Samsung’s mobile division, explained the company’s strategy for the 5G era, which is to become an aggressive, top player in the sector. He recorded the fact that five out of eight mobile phones manufactured in the first half of this year are 5G-enabled devices. As a result, last year’s incident was repeated when Samsung delivered 16 out of 19 smartphones with 5G capabilities across different price ranges.
Samsung managed to capture a 21% share in terms of 5G phone market volume in India last year, hence playing a top role overall and especially in the 5G segment. However, Samsung is still an undisputed leader in the mid-premium segment, consolidating around 31% of the market.
Rao pointed out that the Galaxy A series has been the best-selling smartphone series in India for two consecutive years, making the product their highest-grossing series. Samsung Company’s future goal will be to leverage its installed base by releasing additional premium tier models that will be well-balanced in quality/price, providing customers with a wide range of devices to meet their needs and personal inclinations.
