You’ll be able to use a number of new features that Google Maps adds to its apps on iOS and Android in the coming weeks. The most recent version will be more helpful in showing you the best route while cycling and can notify you whenever a friend or relative safely approaches.
Google Maps will tell you when your friends arrive or leave from a location
A new function that Google added to its Maps app alerts you when a friend or relative arrives or leaves a given location. For example, if you’re waiting for their friend to meet you at a performance, you can ask to be notified when they visit the site. The person whose notifications you wish to receive must first give you access to their location, they will be notified when you request it and they can choose to decline it.

Select your profile symbol and tap on Location Sharing to get started. Select the person whose location you want to request information from the list. Next, click enter to add the contact’s address so that you can receive updates from them. The next step is to select the target location, and arrival or departure time, and then touch Save.
Experience landmarks in aerial view
Google is releasing aerial views of nearly 100 monuments in cities including Barcelona, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo as a preview of the launch of its new surround-view tool. Thanks to this update, you can virtually explore buildings like the Empire State Building. To see if a building is available, go to the Photos section of Google Maps after searching for the landmark.
Information on the detailed cycling route
If you travel almost entirely by bike, you’ll soon be able to check bike routes to decide which direction to go. Additionally, you’ll be able to see elevation changes, traffic levels, and whether there are any steep slopes or stairs along the way. The route will indicate whether you are riding a motorcycle on a highway or a small city street.
Google announced that it will be rolling out this new function in cities where bike directions are available in the coming weeks.
